Assurance of Salvation
We believe that
people can KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are saved and know for
sure they are going to heaven as if they were already there! This assurance is based solely upon the
promises in the Bible. (1 John 5:13; John 5:24) Good works can and should
follow in a person’s life after they are saved, but good works are NOT
necessary for a person to have assurance of Eternal life, even though they may
have a secondary or confirmatory value. (Ephesians 2:10; Titus 3:8)
We believe it is
humanly impossible to look at another person’s life and judge whether they are
actually born-again and saved or not. A
person can be ‘religious’ and do many wonderful works…yet having never trusted
Christ! (Matt. 7:22, 23) When Jesus used the phrase “by their fruits ye shall
know them.” (Matt. 7:20) He was simply saying that false teachers could be
identified when they teach that Jesus is not our Savior or that salvation is
not completely a gift thru Jesus’ death at Calvary.
We believe those
who take 1st John and its contents as “TESTS” that one is truly
saved or not are mistaken! 1st
John gives “TESTS” to determine if one is in “FELLOWSHIP” with the Lord and
walking closely in obedience to the Lord.
